The Global Citizen Seminar is a seminar held by AIESEC to encourage youths to join social humanities act. It’s started with a talk from a keynote speaker; Kukuh Budi. He had a startup called escape.id and he’s also active on many volunteering activities. The theme of his talk is “Importance of International Experience to Have Global Competitive Advantages”, which explains impact made by joining activities abroad. Nowadays, with the MEA and all bilateral and multilateral relations our country made, we are deemed to be ready in so many aspects. Whether it’s in language, education, economy, political sides. Indonesia is also one of ASEAN Country members, they have a goal called ‘3P’ which stands for Peace, Prosperity, and People. With this goals, ASEAN countries shall cooperate to achieve it.
Kukuh also informed us on how to prepare for the Volunteering project. Preparing main things such as: Passport, Basic Knowledge about the place, Name Card and Money. As well the benefits of joining volunteer such as: Improving communication skills, building a global network, brainstorming, healthy competitive edge, chance to do something different.
Alongside all those benefits, youths nowadays need to understand the importance of bilateral relation. With volunteering, our country will have the chance to show that we are willing and able to make a change. It will strengthen the relation between countries and also will help Indonesia achieve the 3P Goals.
The second keynote speaker is Puguh Kuncoro. He’s a young entrepreneur with lots of achievement. The theme he’s proposing is, Self Improvement “Discovery Session”. He explained to us that knowing our own identity is a important. A description on how everyone is different is interesting. We started with a mixture of sperm and egg cell which later turns into zygote, and then, human. An explanation on how humans have amazing capabilities, we have over 2.5 peta byte memories inside our brain, we are one of 7 billion humans that actually placed on earth for a purpose. The art of knowing ourselves is a wisdom.
In our life, we struggle with options, we have to make decisions every day. Eithes as simple as ‘what kind of clothes should we wear today’ or the more advanced ones such as opting either meaning or money. We are opted with two options which are obviously hard to choose. The reason why we need to consider doing a volunteer work is because it’ll actually broaden our knowledge, in that we can make an unbiased decision. The only way we could understand what we truly wants, is by learning about ourselves. There are three parts of things that we should surpassed before we can decide what we want. First, is Personal, Potential and Purpose. By taking this small steps, we can reach the destination point which is “What is our true calling”.
The last session was hosted by Christina. She’s the Local Vice President for Exchange in AIESEC Surabaya. The last session was fun and short. She explained to us the further benefits and advantages of volunteering. Besides that, she showed the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) chart listed by United Nations. It contains 17 goals that aimed towards a better world by the 2030, the contents e.g. No Poverty, Climate Action, Quality Education, Zero Hunger, etc. With doing volunteer work, we could make those 17 goals come true by the deadline. She told the urgency of youth’s willingness to be less ignorant about the world we live in. We have to realize the global issues we are facing. Without any further actions starting from now, our world could lead to a disintegration. Youth are the key towards development. We are strong, energetic and also have a greater impact rather than other generations above us. It is plausible to make a change if we desire it to be. (Banni Bestina)
